PA Fish and Boat Commission’s 2018 Mentored Youth Fishing Days will be here soon!!  The two dates are March 24th (regional) and April 7th (statewide).  These two dates provide an opportunity for local organizations to connect with their local community members.

In the past, organizations have chosen lakes with trout, to set-up tables and provide not only, handouts on coldwater resources, but also activities.  A few organizations provided hot cocoa, free lunches and/or hand warmers to participants.  They even provided fishing expertise, re-rigging services and/or casting assistance.  If your organization does participate, be sure your members wear something that showcases your organization (e.g. logo hat, shirts, coats, etc).

Youth need to have either a Mentored Youth Fishing Permit (FREE) or a Voluntary Youth Fishing License ($2.90 - $1.00 cost + $1.90 agent/transaction fee).  For each Voluntary Youth License purchased for $2.90 (or Voucher once it is redeemed), the PFBC receives $5 back in funding as a federal reimbursement. These funds are dedicated to be used in youth outreach and education programs. The Commission receives no federal reimbursement for Mentored Youth Permits.
