STREAM Girls is an outdoor STEM program for girls. This watershed experience employs STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) plus Recreation and Arts to explore a local stream. Every person is a citizen of her watershed, and TU has partnered with Girls Scouts USA to show what that means to us. By visiting a local stream and having the opportunity to observe it as scientists, anglers and artists, these girls will get a more complete picture of what that stream could mean to them.

See https://www.wqed.org/smartparent/episodes/603 to view the video produced by Pittsburgh educational TV station WQED in which PATU’s pilot STREAM Girls program at the Sieg Center on Fishing Creek last year is featured during the first 9 minutes of the presentation. This segment features the girls discovering what role macroinvertebrates play in determining water quality and was just one part of the 6 learning sessions scheduled during the 2-day program. You can learn more about the TU STREAM Girls program at https://www.tu.org/streamgirls, and by contacting Youth Education Chair Judi Sittler at jlsittler@comcast.net or 814-861-3277.
