Judi Sittler receives PAEE Outstanding Educator Award

Congratulations to Dr. Judi Sittler who recently received the 2022 Outstanding Educator Award from the PA Association of Environmental Educators (PAEE). This award recognizes an educator who has made a significant impact and contribution to the environmental education field in a formal or nonformal setting through innovative or inspiring teaching practices.

Judi started her career as a special education teacher, but after retirement got involved with a women’s fly fishing group, and from there was invited to join the Spring Creek Chapter of TU where she later served as chapter president for several years.

By combining her love of teaching youth and her newfound knowledge of coldwater conservation, Judi dove headfirst into the TU Youth Program, initiating events such as the “Get Outdoors Family Fishing Picnic” where families were invited from the local community and instructed in fishing on a local pond.

In the past three years, Judi has devoted most of her time to establishing the TU Headwaters STREAM Girls program in all six of our PA Council Regions. An important part of this program has been forming partnerships with local TU chapters and another outside conservation organization. PAEE has been a “gold mine” for making those partnerships become a reality.

Our thanks go out to Judi for her hard work and dedication to this important work!
